In a city filled to the brim with some of the world’s most beautiful murals and street art, Sami aims to create rare opportunities for her community to take part in creating them. In 2018, Sami co-led the Kapwa Rising Mural one of the first Filipino-centric murals in SOMA Pilipinas, the Filipino Cultural District, at Mestiza Taqueria (a top 100 SF Chronicle Restaurant).
Now, in Fall 2019, she invited the San Francisco Filipino Community to become a part of her next mural that is slated to take place in Spring of 2020. The upcoming project will feature a series of original portraits of Filipina-Americans that are shaping SF bay area Culture, via their communities, families and businesses. The first step toward the upcoming mural involved participation of the community.
On October 19th, 2019, 4p-10p at the Undiscovered SF night market, Sami hosted an experiential art pop up called Wag Kalimutan (Don’t Forget): A Pinay Artist Pop Up
The pop up featured
-
Interactive Art to help shape her upcoming mural – Attendees wrote and shared their own stories about Filipina-Americans, and placed them on an interactive art piece. These stories are informing portraits in a larger mural in San Francisco’s Filipino Cultural Heritage District.

Augmented Reality (AR) Photo Gallery Programed by Sami See and featuring Photographs by Kim Davalos & Videography by Rocky Garcia and Narce Guinto – inspired storytelling at the event. AR Technology will allowed participants to see portraits and hear the voices of influential Pinays come to life in front of their eyes.
