This mural was installed in my mothers country of birth, the Philippines. In 2017, I traveled to the province of Rizal, where much of my family comes from for at least 4 generations that I can trace. While visiting, I spent time with a group of environmentalists dedicated to replanting native trees and advocating for policies against deforestation.
"How you treat women is a good indication of how you treat nature."
- Nintchka Rosca
Our global ecological crises is the most pressing issue of this time. Exploitation of mother earth parallels and is reflected in the treatment of all womxn. This mural pays homage to the mother land and line that I come from and aims to remind us of the healing, beauty and nourishment that comes from nature.
